8 Ways to Cultivate Gratitude

Follow this easy acronym to get more gratitude in your lives:

T-H-A-N-K-S Morning & Night

Think about how precious life actually is. If it were taken away, it would all be over, but we actually have life, and for that we can be grateful.

Help somebody out every day. Even if its just by giving directions! You make a human connection with somebody when you help somebody out.

Appreciate those that are close to you. Because they give their time and effort just so you can keep living and be happy.

Notice beauty around you. If it’s a butterfly, a flower, a smile or an encouraging word or eye contact, noticing these things means that you get the goodness of the positive emotions that are associated with it. This raises serotonin.

Keep a gratitude journal or a gratitude diary to keep perspective. Because in our minds we tend to keep a list of the things that go wrong. But if you keep a written record of the things that you feel grateful for, on those days when you are not feeling great about life, you can read about things you have written of which you can be grateful for. Your memories get better that way!

Say thank you anytime you get the opportunity to because when you say thank you you raise the dopamine pleasure, the oxytocin love the endorphin sharing and the serotonin calm for the other person and for yourself.

MORNING when you wake up and you regain consciousness, say thank you for another 24 hours freely given to live life further.

NIGHT say thank you for your day, no matter how bad its been. In fact, particularly when it’s been a bad day, say thank you because the next day, chances are you’ll get another 24 hours to make amends or move forward in life.
